The UP Connection

So, as you may know, I am a co host on a radio show at my university called Imagine the Magic. It goes on every Monday at 4pm EST. A segment on the show is the History of the Week, where we talk about all of the history that happened that week related to Disney. This week's history segment let to an epiphany that I had!

I get all my Disney history from an amazing website called This Day in Disney History. For this week's history, there is a post on the 13th about Walt sending a telegram to Roy after they had lost their prize character Oswald the Lucky Rabbit to a ruthless producer named Charles Mintz. As I read this, I paused. For some reason, that name sounded familiar and I was not sure why. Then it dawned on me: The villain in Disney/Pixar's Up is named Charles Muntz!! If you look up the Up character, he is described as greedy and paranoid and, when you search for both names, you find out from several articles that this is exactly what the producer intended.

I found this to be very interesting and I was not sure if many people knew about this connection, so I thought I would share. And as a side note, I would like to wish my greatest congratulations to everyone involved with Up for winning the Best Animated Feature award at the Academy Awards last night. It was well deserved!

Where have I been?????

I have honestly been wondering about this question myself lately!

I first want to apologize to all of my great readers for not having anything posted recently here. Thank you for being so patient with me! Because of your great patience, I thought I would let you know why I have been less active recently and how I have been.

The first reason of course is school.....it always gets in the way of the important stuff.....I started that a few weeks back and unlike my last semester when I had at least 1 day off per week, I do not have that this semester. I have class Monday through Thursday and on Fridays, starting this week, I will be teaching from 9 to 3 at Chester Community Charter. I am looking forward to this even though there is a lot of work involved. I found out that this is my very last field placement before student teaching next spring....wow is that never wracking!! Oh, and pile on top of that the 4 PRAXIS tests that I have to take and pass by December......yikes......

My health has been doing quite well recently. The fiasco I was going through with my medication has been subdued for at least a while and I have my medicine and am doing quite well on it! I have been so well I have actually started to regularly work out about 3 times a week at the gym at school. It is great fun and quite relaxing. Get to listen to my Disney music and bike around, its a great time!

My honors class has been taking up quite a bit of time. I am still writing my paper on something Disney related, I just haven't been able to pinpoint what I want to write about as of yet. At this point, I am contemplating doing the paper I was going to work on this summer, which is examining Walt Disney's vision of EPCOT and seeing how realistic and possible it would be for today's society. That will give me some more time to brainstorm on the other topic I am going to cover for my last paper. I have also been working on creating a blog for my Honors class. We need to get our name out more, so I figured one of the best ways to do that would be a blog. Once I have done some work on that, I will post a link to it from here so you can see what Neumann University Honors is all about.

My radio show on Sorcerer Radio, Sorcom Review, is still going very strong, as is my Neumann Radio show Imagine the Magic. Still having so much fun with those, I really enjoy the radio!

With all of this craziness around me, I was finding it difficult to fit in the things I really want to do: Write on my blog and talk Disney! I am going to try a lot harder to put this in though, I find it so relaxing to talk about Disney, I think it would really help me balance the other stuff I have to do. I do have lots of stuff to write about and I will work to get it all posted.

Again, thank you for your patience with a crazy college student, you all are awesome!!

Peace, Love and Mickey Mouse!!

P.S. Keep your eyes open for something that Chris and I have in the works as well.....

The Disney Fun Just Keeps on Comin'!

First, I got to do this great Disney radio show called Imagine the Magic on my University radio station, every Monday at 4pm EST. Then, I got the position as the Social Media Admin for Celebrations Magazine! And now, as if my luck could not get any better, some more pixie dust heads my way in the form of the Sorcom Review on Sorcerer Radio.

One of the live DJ's on Sorcerer Radio, Chris Reid, was doing two shows on SR, the Tiki Room Morning Show and the Sorcom Review. Unfortunately, his schedule became very busy and he was no longer able to broadcast both shows during their regular times. So in the last week, major changes have come to the Sorcerer Radio Schedule, including the change of the TRMS from being 5 days a week to being just 1 day a week for 2 hours, every Friday. What is taking the place of the TRMS Monday through Thursday? Why the other live shows on srsounds.com of course! DW_60 with Jeff Davis is now every Thursday at 8 am EST and his new show, SRN Top 10, which lists off the top 10 songs for the week on Sorcerer Radio, airs every Monday at 8am EST. Backstage with Krystal is Wednesdays at 8am EST. This leaves the Sorcom Review. Chris could no longer broadcast this show, so who could they get to replace him? Why who else but the girl who filled in on the TRMS the one day that Chris was sick a few weeks ago....what was her name again??...

Yep, that's right! I am the new host of the Sorcom Review, bringing you the news from the Sorcerer Radio message boards and playing your favorite Disney music at 8am EST every Tuesday. I will talk about videos, trip reports, community birthdays and big stories that are happening on the Sorcerer Forums as well as let everyone know how they can get involved it the community.

I am so grateful to Sorcerer, the owner and head honcho of Sorcerer Radio, for letting me become a part of his great community and family of DJ's!!

So make sure to tune in every Tuesday at 8am EST and for the replay at 7pm EST for the Sorcom Review! Send me any requests and comments to lady_aurora_yensid@hotmail.com. And check out all of the other great programming that is on Sorcerer Radio as well, just visit their website at www.srsounds.com. From there you can enter the chatroom, the forums and get lots more great Disney information!

Bringing some Musical Magic to Neumann U!

So I have been working for Neumann Radio, my university's radio station, for about a year and half now and have not done much on the radio itself, mainly because of nerves and lack of ideas for a show. Finally though, after much planning and deliberation, I have decided to make my debut on the radio waves!

(Almost) Every Monday at 4pm EST, give a listen to media.neumann.edu and you can hear me, Jess Clawson, spinning your favorite Disney movie tunes, park music and trivia on Imagine The Magic. I will be playing a lot of park music, since that is what is really dear to my heart, but I will also be playing soundtracks from popular Disney movies and maybe some remixes as well. I will also be having a "This Week in Disney History" section, where I will talk about major events that happened that week in Disney's past as well as any major information that is to happen that coming week.

I am very excited about being able to share my love of Disney with my fellow students and all who will tune in to Neumann radio and listen! If you are interested in listening to my show, tune in at 4pm EST on Mondays to Neumann Radio and imagine the magic with me!!ITM Logo created by Chris Reid
