The Final Stretch

We are almost there! It is T minus 14 days until Chris and I are on Disney property and the excitement is really building! I have already pulled out the suitcase and began packing. I have set stuff aside for a few weeks now, but finally have the suitcase out to put stuff in. I have bought many of the supplies needed for down there, such as shampoo, toothpaste and the like. Chris and I ordered customized maps last week and they arrived today and in the mail a few days ago we received our luggage tags and vouchers, which I am very excited about!! Everything is slowly coming together, 250 days ago I didnt think this trip would ever get here, but now it is!

New Resort: Awaiting Full Judgement

Disney announced on their blog a few days ago about plans for a new resort on the Walt Disney World Property. Where the planned "Legendary Years" area of Pop Century Resort remains lie, there will be a brand new resort capturing the hearts of Disney movie lovers, Disney's Art of Animation Resort. This resort is aimed at families and will have wings of the hotel themed to 4 different Disney movies: Cars, Finding Nemo, The Lion King and The Little Mermaid. The Little Mermaid wing will be the largest with 864 themed rooms while the remaining 1120 will be themed around the three other movies. There will be rooms and suites in the resort, the suites having both a living room and a bedroom, sleeping 6 people while the rooms will sleep 4. Disney's Art of Animation Resort will be a value resort and a non-DVC resort.

While the unveiling of a new resort is very exciting, there are several questions that come to mind. The main one that comes to me is Why these Movies? Two of these four movies already have representation at resorts on property; the new Finding Nemo rooms at Caribbean Beach and The Lion King theme at the Kidani Village DVC Property at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Disney has so many different movies, why are they repeating? It doesn't really make sense to me. I will be also interested to see the layout of the resort when it is released, I am curious as to why The Little Mermaid is such a large portion of the resort. And will this resort have any interactions with the Pop Century Resort? These hotels share a waterway and there are bridges connecting the two properties currently built.

Hopefully all of these questions will be answered for us, but in the meantime, the speculation continues. Do you have any questions about the new property? Feel free to comment about them! Keep your eyes here for updates as they become available.

Disney and Arthritis

As I was searching around for some pictures of Disney the other day, I came across one that got my attention very quickly. It was labeled "1956- Walt Disney" and it was from arthritis.org. Naturally, I just had to click on it and check it out. The page that came up was called "Milestones for Juvenile Arthritis" and it discussed programs and people who supported the fight to find a cure for Juvenile Arthritis. Sure enough, about half way down the page, was a picture of Walt Disney with a young boy who has JA. See the full article and picture here.

After seeing this, I was curious if there was any way that Disney was involved with the Arthritis Foundation, so I did a Google search to see what I could find. The page I came across first was a page for the 2011 Joints in Motion Training Team. This online training team is helping runners to train for the Walt Disney World Half Marathon and Marathon in January while raising money for the Arthritis Foundation!

When you register for the team, you are given your own interactive pages and a whole community of people to talk to who are running for the same cause. It costs $150 to join the team for the Half Marathon, the Marathon or Goofy Challenge and if you have ran with the the team before, it is only $100 to register again. This joiner's fee includes the training information you receive online, guaranteed event entry, hotel accommodations at a Walt Disney World Resort, Team Apparel, Team Incentives, and your own personalized fund raising site and tools for the fund raising. The Donation goal for the program is $2600, all the money going to help find a cure to Arthritis.

If you are not a runner, you can go to the site just to donate to the cause as well. If you know someone who is running on the team and would like to donate to their goal, just go to the page and search for their name.

If you are interested in registering for the Joints in Motion Training Team, visit their website here.
